Benjamin Conley papers, 1842-1880.

The collection consists of papers of Benjamin Conley from 1842-1880. The collection consists mainly of correspondence to Conley relating to his business practice, his presidency of the Macon and Augusta Railroad (1868-1869), his participation in the 1867 Constitutional Convention (1867-1868), as Georgia Governor (October 1871 - January 1872), and as Postmaster of Atlanta (1875-1880). Many letters deal with Georgia reconstruction and politics, Conley's involvement in the Republican Party, and political matters relating to Augusta (Ga.). Correspondents include Foster Blodgett, John S. Bigby, Thomas J. Spear, and business partner B.W. Force.
